Company Creates Tool to Help Medical Staff Read Small Print

Taking medication to recover from an injury or treat a long-term illness is serious business. According to The Washington Post, almost 60 percent of Americans take prescription drugs each year. These medications can be immensely helpful, but they can also be potentially dangerous. If you forget to take pills at a certain time, mix them with other medications that they conflict with, or even have a glass of wine in the evening, you could be putting yourself at risk for injury.

According to PR Newswire, 1.3 million Americans are injured every year because of mistakes with their medications. It’s hard to pinpoint where all of these injuries occurred. In some cases they’re caused by patient error, but it’s also possible that the healthcare providers and pharmacists that work with the patients sometimes fail to mention important information about the medications in question.

In fact, in 2014 and 2015, healthcare professionals were asked if they thought the fine print that details prescription information was too hard to read, and they resoundingly replied “yes.” Likewise, it’s possible that some of those 1.3 million Americans were hurt because of fine print on their prescriptions that pharmacists were unable to read.

That’s why Janeil Enterprises was founded. This company created a lighted magnification system that will help healthcare professionals read the fine print, and properly advise their patients on their medications. Hospital and pharmacy staffs can carry the small magnification system in their pockets, and refer to it when they are administering, recommending, or filling prescriptions for their patients’ medications. Janeil Enterprises hopes that this device will become commonplace in hospitals and clinics, preventing dosage errors and miscommunications between physicians and patients.
