Construction Accident in Manhattan Kills One and Injures Three

Manhattan, NY – A 50-year-old hardhat was killed and at least three other people were injured in a construction accident at a Manhattan building at around 4:20 p.m. on July 16. The catastrophic incident occurred while workers were performing facade restoration work when a section of parapet fell from a 12-story condo building on East 36th Street near Lexington Avenue in Murray Hill. The debris from the parapet struck into a rig that held two construction workers, and eventually slammed into scaffolding below. EMS personnel rushed the patients to Bellevue Hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead. The City Buildings Department is still conducting further investigation on the cause of the disaster.
