79-Year-Old Cyclist Fatally Struck by an Unlicensed Driver of a Pickup Truck on Staten Island, NY

Staten Island, NY – After weeks of staying indoors due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a 79-year-old male cyclist had recently started riding his bike to stay in shape but was run over by a pickup truck driver with a revoked license around 8:20 a.m. of May 22 just half a block away from his Staten Island home.

The victim, a teacher and grandfather, was biking westbound on Signs Road in the Bulls Head section when he was struck by a 43-year-old driver of a 2000 Ford pickup truck turning left onto Arlene Street.

The bicyclist was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center with severe head trauma; but succumbed to his injuries there. The pickup truck operator remained at the scene and was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operator and failure to use due care.
