Off-duty NYPD officer dies in a crash in Suffolk County

Suffolk County, NYC – A 43-year-old off-duty NYPD was killed in a fatal crash past exit 46 in Smithtown.

According to the authorities, the officer was heading east on Northern State Parkway when he veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree.

The officer passed away despite being taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with severe internal injuries and a broken leg.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
