Around 7 in the morning of Sunday, May 3, a Suffolk County woman named Gresmor J. Blackman-Douglas was killed in a single-car crash on the Southern State Parkway near exit 15S in Hempstead, NY when her 2013 Nissan Rogue car struck a tree and caught fire. The 58-year-old victim was on her way to work as a critical care nurse at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn at the time of the fiery crash. She succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene, according to the Nassau County Police Department paramedic. The town will grant her the highest honor, a posthumous Heroism Award, for her commitment to helping others.
