Elderly Couple Saved by Good Samaritans and Suffolk County Rescuers After Crashing Car Into Long Island Canal

Long Island, NY – An elderly couple was saved after crashing their car into a Long Island canal just after 12:00 p.m. on October 19, 2020. Good Samaritans and Suffolk County rescuers pulled the 78-year-old Massapequa man and his 76-year-old wife to safety after their 2004 Mercury struck a 2016 Subaru which got into a prior collision with another vehicle at the intersection of Venetial Promenade on Montauk Highway. The Mercury smashed through a fence, fell into the canal, and eventually vanished in the water. All patients were rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.
